Junior Quarterback Jordan Hein has been named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after passing for 381 yards and accounting for 5 TDs…4 TD passes and a TD run. Hein, after that performance has now thrown for 5,570 yards, setting the new BSU career passing record. He now has 52 TD passes, second alltime, and is responsible between passes and rushes for 69 touchdowns, also second alltime. He now has 10 games of over 300 total yards, first alltime in school history.
Meanwhile, the Beavers moved up a spot in the weekly Super Region 3 rankings. They’re now #8 in the region, with the top 7 advancing to the NCAA D2 playoffs. Two other NSIC schools are also ranked and both would be in the playoffs if they began today. Sioux Falls is undefeated and #2, while UMD has one loss and is ranked #5.
The Beavers will battle Minnesota-Moorhead for the battle axe this Saturday at 1pm at Chet Anderson Stadium.
BEAVER MENS HOCKEY
Michael Bitzer has once again been named the WCHA Defensive Player of the week after going 2-0-0 and allowing just one goal on the weekend. He was 14 of 15 in a 2-1 OT win on Friday, and was 17 of 17 on Saturday, earning his 13th career shutout, the new BSU record. This was also his second WCHA Defensive Player of the Week Award this year, and 9th weekly award of his career. On the year, Bitzer is 6-2-0 with a goals against average of 1.38 and save percentage of .941. This weekend he had a 2-0 record with a 0.50 goals against and .969 save percentage.
Meanwhile the Beavers are 6-2-0 and are 6-0-0 for 18 points in the WCHA. They’ve moved back up two spots in the USCHO.com National Poll and are currently #18 in the rankings as they get ready for a long road trip this week. The Beavers will be at Alaksa-Fairbanks at 10pm Central time both Friday and Saturday night.
