LUMBERJACK BOYS TENNIS
The Lumberjacks took 2nd at the Northwest Quad, while Thief River Falls took top honors. Spencer Konecne went 3-0 in 1st Singles to claim the championship and the Doubles team of Ben Hess and Kolden Michalecek went 2-1 and tied for 1st.
The Lumberjacks will be at the Alexandria Invitational Saturday.
Bemidji 11, Thief River Falls 1 (6 innings)
The Jacks got 1st inning homers from Otto Grimm and Jared Young to take a 3-0 lead and cruise from there. Brendan Kuechenmeister added a 2 run shot in the 6th. Young went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and scored 2 runs. Caleb Carlson was 2 for 2 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Brady Rutledge went 2 for 4. Matt Fitzgerald went 3 for 4 and scored 3 runs and George Loxtercamp tripled. Caleb Carlson got the win, going the 1st 4 innings, giving up no runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
Bemidji is 7-1 and host Brainerd Monday at BSU Ballpark. You’ll hear it on the LJRN with Lumberjacks Live at 4:15. The Jacks are #1 in Class AAA QRF and #4 in the Coach’s poll.
LUMBERJACK BOYS & GIRLS GOLF
The Lumberjack Girls Golf team took 3rd at the Pre-Section tournament at the Preserve in Pequot Lakes. They were 14 strokes behind 1st place Buffalo and 2 behind 2nd place Alex. Taylor Offerdahl led the way with an 81, 2 strokes off the leader.
Meanwhile, the Lumberjack Boys took 6th in the Pre-Section, led by Jarrett Lalli’s 81.
The Girls are back in action today at the Grand Rapids Invite at Pokegama, while the boys will host the Bemidji Invite at the Town & Country Club Monday.
LUMBERJACK BOYS & GIRLS TRACK
The Bemidji Boys won the DL Invite yesterday, while the girls took 4th. For the boys, they took the top 3 spots in the 800 with Isaac Berg, Alex Vollen and Andrew Gonzalez in that order. Cody Roder won the 1600 and Nathan Alto claimed the 3200. The 4×400 Relay also took 1st. For the girls, Jordan Mann won the 100 meters, while Ciara Cermak finished 5th. Abby Mueller took 2nd in the 400 and Long Jump, and Sadie Hamrin took 2nd in the 800.
The Jacks will be back in action Tuesday in Brainerd at the True Team Section meet.
Fergus Falls 13, Bemidji 10
It was 6-6 after 2. Then the Jacks put up 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th after the Otters got a run in the top of the inning and Bemidji led 9-7. But Fergus got 6 in the 6th to go up 13-9 and the Jacks added a run in the 7th. Sam Edlund went 3 for 4 with a homerun and 5 RBI.
Bemidji is 3-4 and back in Brainerd today to battle the 9-0 Warriors at 5:00.
Augustana 2, Bemidji State 1
The Beavers got their only run on a Brooke Phillips homerun and got a great start from Jess Yost, but she suffered a hard luck loss, giving up 2 unearned runs on 8 hits. She walked 1 and struck out 3.
Bemidji State 4, SW Mn State 1
Brooke Phillips went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI. Olivia Tucker also went 2 for 3 with a double, and Alayna Krejci had a double. Jess Yost got the win, going the distance, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, no walks and 9 strikeouts.
Yost is now 22-7 on the year.
Bemidji State is now 25-18, and are still alive in the NSIC tournament. They play Sioux Falls at 10am today in a loser out game.
Bemidji State 3, #25 St. Cloud State 2
Duane Miller went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI. Gunner Olszewski went 2 for 3 with a double, triple and an RBI. Scott Litchy also doubled for the Beavers. Connor McNallan went the distance for the win, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts.
Bemidji State 10, #25 St. Cloud State 6
The Beavers were down 5-2, but added 3 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th. St. Cloud scored a run in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings. The Beavers scored 4 in the 12th to win it. Collin Eckman went 5 for 6 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Gunner Olszewski went 3 for 6 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Duane Miller went 2 for 6 with 3 RBI. Cole Easley went 2 for 4 with a double.
The Beavers are 19-29 and they’ll face the Huskies twice more Saturday, hosting St. Cloud at 4 and 6pm at BSU Ballpark.
