LUMBERJACK BOYS & GIRLS SOCCER
State Quarterfinal at Prior Lake…
Austin 3, Bemidji 2 (Extra Time)
The Lumberjacks were already shorthanded going into the state tournament. They had already lost starting sophomore Kolden Michalecek and senior Linaes Whiting going into the game, and 5 minutes in, they lost their starting senior goaltender Adam Laakso to a leg injury after a collision. The Jacks had to go with sophomore Jedadiah Bitter and he played very well for Bemidji. They would also lose Aspen Galdamez to injury late in the game. Nonetheless, despite lots of pressure by the Packers, Bemidji managed to grab a 1-0 lead at the half. In the game’s 26th minute, the Jacks got a corner kick and Ben Hess scored on a feed from Luke Hess. But early in the 2nd, Austin got a couple of quick goals in a one minute span to go up 2-1. But the Jacks were not done. With 7 minutes left, the Jacks got another set piece, and again it was Luke Hess with assist as he found John Chadwick who put it home sending the game into overtime. With just over 2 minutes to go, a foul set up Austin’s game winning goal. The Jacks were outshot 14-2. They lose several key seniors…Laakso, Whiting, Chadwick, Luke Hess, Haaken Thorsgaard and Brock Michalecek.

The Lumberjacks finished their 2nd straight state tournament season with a final record of 16-3-2.
