Bemidji State is 15-1-3 on the year and have qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time in history. The Beavers earned an At Large bid to the Central Regional and will begin play in Warrensburg, MO Friday. The 5th seeded Beavers will try to avenge their 1-0 NSIC semifinal loss when they face the 4th seeded Augustana Vikings at 1pm. The Beavers lost their 1st game of the year in the NSIC semifinal, while the Vikings have won 8 of their last 9. That loss was to Mankato in the NSIC championship game. The winner moves on Sunday to face Central Missouri, the #1 seed and tournament host, in the Central Regional semifinal. Central Missour is 21-0 and #1 in the nation. Winners move on to the 3rd and Quarterfinal Round at the highest remaining seed’s home November 17th and 19th.

After a split at Alaska, which featured a 4-3 OT loss and 3-2 win, Bemidji State sits at 4-2-2 and 2-1-1-1 for 8 points in the WCHA. The Beavers will host pre-season conference favorite Minnesota State-Mankato this Friday and Saturday night at Sanford Center.

Another week and another award for the Beavers. This time it was senior Gerry Fitzgerald, who was the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week. He was the league’s top scorer on the weekend with a goal and 3 assists. He had 2 assists in the OT loss on Saturday and had an assist and the game winning goal (a power play) on Saturday. It’s the 1st award of the year from Gerry and the 3rd of his career.

Still one group of fall athletes still in action as the Lumberjack Girls Swimmers, the 5 time defending champions, will try to make it 6 in a row this weekend at the Section tournament in Grand Rapids Friday and Saturday.

Also, the 1st of the winter teams begins action Friday, as the Lumberjack Girls Hockey team opens the season at home, hosting perennial power East Grand Forks at the BCA. You’ll hear it on the LJRN (KBUN-FM 104.5 and kbunsportsradio.com) beginning with Lumberjacks Live at 6:45.
